Why am I launching it?
I am launching this newsletter as part of a broader effort to raise awareness and interest in Indian foreign policy, especially in Europe. Why India?
In the last decade, India has become a more influential and ambitious global actor. India’s rise is undeniable: it is now the world’s most populous country and the fifth largest economy, with projections to become the third largest by 2030, surpassing Japan and Germany, and trailing only the US and China. It also has the world’s second-largest military. India’s foreign policy reflects its colonial past, which drives its fierce defense of sovereignty and strategic autonomy, allowing flexibility to cooperate with various actors without fully committing to anyone. India has stepped up as a voice for the Global South and plays an increasingly important role in shaping the future of democracy worldwide, rethinking global supply chains post-COVID-19, tech policies and standards, and climate change mitigation, inter alia. In a world undergoing significant shifts in power, understanding Indian foreign policy is crucial. India’s decisions and actions are becoming more important geopolitically.
This project is crucial because knowledge and understanding about this country are still limited in Europe. This newsletter aims to bridge that gap.
